My mum has been at Cavendish for the last five years. Since the present manager has been there the dementia care has improved immensely. The home is very dementia friendly i.e memory lane, sensory room, photographs, activities.
I am extremely impressed with the activities coordinator she goes above and beyond her duties as does the manager. The care staff work extremely hard and are very caring. The home comes over as friendly and very homely.

Cavendish Care Home which provides specialist dementia care has a bright and spacious interior, with period features and two secure, enclosed gardens, where residents can enjoy many homely comforts and a relaxing lifestyle.
In November the Mayor of Gloucester (Mayor Brown) opened what is believed to be the first multi-sensory indoor beach in the country which engages and stimulates the five senses, sand and wind/fan (touch), movie of the sea (sight), soft drinks (taste), waves (sound), and scent of beach (smell).
The intention of the indoor beach is to stimulate the imagination, the mind and the awareness of our residents and other users, whilst at the same time having a calming and soothing affect. Through the beaches arousal of the five senses plus interaction with our carers we expect (and will monitor) an improvement in behaviour and well-being, physically and mentally.
For those residents willing and/or able to leave the home, our carers take them on trips to the local town centre, Gloucester quays or a quiet pub lunch.
The home employs a full time holistic therapist who amongst other things, provides aromatherapy, Indian head massage and reflexology. Other activities are provided throughout the week by staff and external professionals.
Nutritious meals are planned in consultation with a dietitian, taking account of each residents dietary requirements and preferences.
The best way to see if Cavendish Care Home is the right fit for your loved one is to come and have a look around.
